Dr Jeeve Kanagalingam is an Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon with sub-specialty expertise in Thyroid, Head and Neck Cancer and Voice surgery. He treats ENT problems in children too. Following graduation from the University of Oxford, he trained and worked in London, UK for 12 years before returning to Singapore in 2008. He is one of a handful of ENT surgeons in Singapore on the General Medical Council’s (GMC) Specialist Register in the United Kingdom. He is also a registered as a medical practitioner in Australia and Malaysia. He is Assistant Professor and Senior House Tutor at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and Visiting Consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. These academic and public appointments keep him updated and current in his knowledge and skills.

Training
Dr Jeeve Kanagalingam studied pre-clinical medicine at the University of Cambridge as a Chevening Scholar before completing clinical medicine at the University of Oxford. He then pursued specialist training within the National Health Service (NHS) in London. He spent three years at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital, and a year each at the Royal Marsden Hospital – the world’s oldest cancer hospital – and Charing Cross Hospital in West London. At these institutions, he was privileged to learn from some of the finest ENT surgeons such as Professors Tony Cheesman, David Howard and Valerie Lund.In 2004, he was awarded the prestigious Simpson-Smith Travelling fellowship to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre, New York.
Dr Jeeve received training in paediatric or children’s ENT at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, St Mary’s and Chelsea & Westminster Hospitals in London. In 2006, he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Society of Medicine for his outstanding performance in the intercollegiate FRCS examinations. He then pursued advanced training in Head and Neck Cancer Surgery in Australia with Professor William B Coman.
Advanced Surgical Skills
Dr Jeeve’s main area of subspecialty interest is in head and neck surgery and voice surgery (laryngology). He has vast experienced gained in London, Australia and more recently in Singapore. As Chief of the Head and Neck Cancer Service at Tan Tock Seng Hospital until October 2012, he had the opportunity to treat complex head and neck cancer cases from the region and the Middle East referred to him by Johns Hopkins International Medical Centre. He has treated many patients with complex tumours of the thyroid, oral cavity, salivary gland, throat (larynx and pharynx) and nose (sinonasal). He is proficient in the use of ultrasound, lasers, minimal access surgery and nerve-integrity monitoring. He is trained in advanced robotic surgery and was one of the two-man team to perform the first transoral robotic surgery (TORS) case in TTSH for oropharyngeal cancer in 2012.
In 2011, he was awarded the Singapore Government’s Health Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) award to pursue advanced training in voice surgery (laryngology) and care for the professional voice at the University of Pittburgh Medical Center, USA. He continues to support the Voice Clinic at Tan Tock Seng Hospital in his capacity as a Visiting Consultant.
Academia
Dr Jeeve is widely published and continues to have an active interest in teaching and research. He has authored three book chapters and 28 peer-reviewed scientific papers to date. He is Assistant Professor and Senior House Tutor at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. He is an examiner in the exit examinations in Otolaryngology in Singapore, and has been an external examiner to universities abroad. In 2012, he was selected by medical undergraduates as one of the top 10 teachers in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He convened the first inaugural joint head and neck cancer meeting in Singapore with the head and neck cancer societies of Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong in September 2011. He has taught in several international head and neck courses both in Australasia (Brisbane 2009, Perth 2010) and in Southeast Asia (Myanmar 2011, Malaysia 2012).He is an instructor for the AO Craniomaxillofacial (CMF) course and runs an annual thyroid ultrasound course in Singapore.His commitment to postgraduate training led to his appointment to the National Residency Advisory Committee in Otorhinolaryngology.
