Dr John Bosco Lee was a recipient of the Barry Prize from King’s College London. He was elected to be an Associate of King’s College (AKC) and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore (FAMS). In his effort to provide optimal care for his patients, he spent over 2 years to obtain specialist training in clinical hypnosis from the London College of Clinical Hypnosis of which he is now a member of the academic team. His specialty is in Forensic Psychiatry and had worked for about 10 years in forensic psychiatry related postings at the Institute of Mental Health in Singapore, at the Changi Prison Complex, in the Singapore Armed Forces (Psychological Care Centre) and attachments at overseas institutions such as HM Prison Brixton.

The prevalence of people with mental retardation is 1% in society (DSM-5). Dr John Bosco Lee had studied and analysed the difficulties and needs of people with mental retardation who offend. It is not uncommon for people with mental retardation to get into trouble with the legal system when their social care and supervision are inadequate. He had published in peer reviewed journals and presented in conferences on the assessment and treatment of sexual offenders, date rapes as well as clinical hypnosis and psychotherapy.

Dr John Bosco Lee’s conviction is to help and advocate for offenders with mental disorders in the legal system. He passionately believes that people with mental illnesses who offend should not be just subjected to the punitive aspect of the legal system, but be accurately assessed before sentencing, be given appropriate treatment, receive rehabilitation and be prepared for their eventual recovery and re-integration into society.

In 2015, Dr John Bosco Lee founded The Adelphi Psych Medicine Clinic to provide a convenient platform for working professionals, lawyers and anyone seeking professional help for difficulties encountered at schools, while serving National Service in the military, police or civil defence or when disturbed at work place due to mental health issues. He invited a group of like-minded therapists to join his practice in general psychiatry and forensic psychiatry, they are well trained and experienced in their clinical competencies while being confidential and caring in their approach.

Dr John Bosco Lee had previously provided expert witness testimony at the Military Court, State Court and the Supreme Court. With the rising need for home and hospital consultations to assess mental capacity for legal competency to make decisions eg wills, out-of-office consultations can be arranged at the Adelphi Psych Medicine Clinic.

Dr John Bosco Lee is a certified Diving Medical Officer from the Naval Undersea Medical Institute ( 99-10-DMO) of the United States Navy. The diver’s reflex of “stop, breathe and think” is a deeply ingrained DNA in him as he reassuringly helps patients navigate through the toughest challenges of psychotherapy and forensic psychiatry.
