Special Interest in Allergy, Immunology & Rheumatology

Dr Liew Woei Kang obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the National University of Singapore. He obtained his specialist qualifications of Membership to the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (United Kingdom) in 2003. He has also been conferred Fellowship by the Academy of Medicine, Singapore and is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology.

Prior to joining SBCC, Dr. Liew held the position of Consultant Paediatrician in the Allergy Service and Rheumatology & Immunology Service, Department of Paediatrics, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. He was also Adjunct Assistant Professor in Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore and Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He continues to be a visiting consultant to KK Hospital.

Dr Liew was awarded the Health Manpower Development Programme Fellowship from the Ministry of Health and underwent advanced training in Paediatric Allergy and Immunology at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia in 2007. Dr Liew was also awarded several research grants from the National Medical Research Council, Singhealth Foundation and KKH Research centre to pursue clinical research in paediatric anaphylaxis, drug allergy, primary immunodeficiencies and Kawasaki disease.

Dr Liew is passionate about medical education and has won a Singhealth Outstanding Young Teacher’s Award in 2007, and the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 2010. He was also awarded the Excellent service award (STAR) in 2007 and Service from the Heart Award in 2010. He continues to play an active in his speciality and is the current President of College of Paediatrics and Child Health Singapore, Academy of Medicine Singapore. He is also Workgroup Chair for Registry and Research for Asia Pacific Society of Primary Immunodeficiency, and the immediate-past President of the Asthma and Allergy Association.

Common conditions managed by and common procedures performed by Dr Liew include allergy disorders like eczema, food and drug allergy, allergic rhinitis, asthma, food and drug challenges, immunotherapy; immunological disorders like primary immunodeficiencies and evaluation of recurrent infections; and rheumatological disorders like Kawasaki disease, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and intra-articular joint injections.
