Dr. Wong Nan-Yaw

Dr. Wong is a certified specialist general and colorectal surgeon. He graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1993 with the degrees of MB,BS. After a few years of practice he developed a passionate interest for surgical diseases and decided to embark on a career in surgery.

He successfully obtained his Fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 1998. The increasing incidence of colorectal cancers in South East Asia prompted him to sub-specialize in colorectal surgery.

Dr. Wong trained in the Department of Colorectal Surgery at the Singapore General Hospital, which is an internationally recognized center of excellence for the treatment of colorectal diseases.

In 2002 he was awarded an Exchange Fellowship to spend a year training at the Bradford Royal Infirmary in the United Kingdom. Dr. Wong obtained his specialist accreditation with the Singapore Medical Council in 2003.

In 2005 he was given an award to train in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) colorectal surgery at the prestigious Weill-Cornell Medical College in New York, USA. Under the mentorship of renowned Professor Jeffery Milsom he further honed his skills in laparoscopic surgical treatment of colorectal cancers.

Dr. Wong: Private Practice at Mount Elizabeth
Since 2008, Dr. Wong has started his own private practice at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Center. His practice focuses on the diagnosis and therapy of both benign and malignant conditions of the colon, rectum and anus. This includes diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy for the early detection of cancers, the surgical treatment of hemorrhoids (piles), perianal abscesses and fistulae, and surgery of colorectal cancers.

Besides colorectal work, he is also well-versed in general surgical conditions like gallstones and abdominal wall hernias. He continues to keep up to date by attending courses in order to maintain cutting edge knowledge and skills.

He maintains admitting privileges at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital, East Shore Hospital and Mount Alvernia Hospital. Dr. Wong also has operating rights at Novena Surgery as well as Orchard Surgery at Paragon.

Dr. Wong is a Fellow with the Academy of Medicine (Singapore) and also a Member of the Society of Colorectal Surgeons (Singapore). He has publications in international peer-review medical journals, and has been invited as a speaker in various seminars and conferences, both around the region and in the United States of America.

Dr. Wong was also involved in the humanitarian earthquake medical relief effort in Taiwan, ROC in 1999, for which he was conferred a medal for his contributions.
